William Sweetland (1822 -1910)

One Hundred Years On

 
The Exhibition included a multitude of SWEETLAND'S talents including architecture,
wood carving, furniture making, musical talents and inventions, organ building, art
and stone masonry.

Artefacts on displat  included Sweetland's 1883 Oil of Broad Street Bath
and his much beloved hat!


 
Sir Isaac Pitman
 
 Pioneer of shorthand, Sir Isaac Pitman provided one of the most used systems of shorthand in the world.
A former school teacher, Pitman lived in Bath and continued to work in the city for most of his life.

Bath based photographer and inventor - an acquaintance of Sweetland

 Renowned for his development of the postal service

 Bath's  status as a Heritage City owes much to Ralph Allen.
 His beautiful Bath Stone Buildings stand proudly in the heart of Bath
